I recently came across a remarkably precise, prophetic-like lecture given by Michio Kushi in June 1984 at the Mid-Atlantic Macrobiotic Camp (Kushi, 2017, November 23). Michio Kushi was known as a leading advocate of macrobiotics in the United States (Fox, 2014). Macrobiotics primarily involves changing what you eat completely and removing all processed foods, such as placing focus on eating whole wheat foods and only organic, locally grown plants (Cancer Research UK, 2022, January 25). Other nuances in the process of macrobiotics further involve eating only when you are hungry and avoiding the use of a microwave and cooking with only purified water. As stressed in the video, the process requires much discipline.
One of the really interesting aspects of the video is how Kushi outlined a future defined by a split within the human race. Though the video was over forty years old, Kushi’s description of two distinct “species” of humans is remarkably timely. Then, after the two groups are defined, a disturbingly sharp decline of mankind would occur, leading to the end of the world. Kushi’s perspective feels increasingly relevant in today’s technological landscape.
In the video, which I recommend you take the time to watch, as stated above, Kushi described two pathways for humanity on a chalkboard. The first utilized artificial interventions, and this trajectory that utilizes chemical stability and mechanical replacement to maintain life, which is emphasized by modern “science.” This pathway ultimately degrades long-term vitality, and although it can benefit a person in the short term, the long-term consequences are outright fatal. The second path prioritizes discipline and the use of implementing dietary habits to heal the body without reliance on so-called medicinal treatments or technology.
According to Kushi, the natural pathway is far better at healing the body because it simultaneously contributes to spiritual development, suggesting that the more the physical body heals naturally, which it is intended to do, the better we can connect ourselves with God. In the video, Kushi also argues that adopting a macrobiotic lifestyle can help people take control of their health and well-being, potentially create a new, healthier human species, and build a peaceful and harmonious world. Although I disagree with Kushi on this final perspective, that humanity can create their own utopia here, I do agree that the more healed our physical bodies are, the more energy we exhibit and feel, which would enhance our spirits, which are part of our bodies. (I believe we have three parts to ourselves, which include: the body, the spirit, and the soul.)
The Stages of Technological Displacement
According to Kushi’s lecture, the transition away from natural humanity involves three phases:
- Bionation: The first phase involves replacing biological components (teeth, bones, and organs) with artificial substitutes.
- Psychonation: The second phase includes external control of the human mind through chemical agents and electronic devices.
- Ultra-Psychonation: The third and final phase pertains to an advanced stage of cognitive programming and the artificial alteration of human memory.
Kushi cited scientific projections suggesting the world would enter the “Bionation age” by 1980, “Psychonation” by 2000, and “Ultra-psychonation” by 2020. Most notably, he pointed to 2033 as a potential “stopping point” for civilization, which he believed is a total collapse that is the total end of society as we know it.
Kushi’s Oddly Prophetic Timeline
Kushi argued that the more advanced an individual is, the more that person chooses natural recovery over medical dependency. In his lecture, he said most people will choose the modern medical direction. To be avant-garde, people will end their lives with “modern” medicine, as society is often focused solely on the prestige of clinical education and the “shiny” machinery in modern hospitals, which are ultimately distractions from true natural healing. In the video, Kushi maintained that the true technique of survival is found in the simple, higher state of knowing how to cook and live in harmony with nature. He warned that the path of non-natural healing is not merely a medical choice, but a trajectory that could lead to the end of mankind.
These claims gain even more depth when viewed through the lens of eschatology. The timeline Kushi presented aligns remarkably with modern discourse regarding the return of Christ and the beginning of the Millennial Reign, with some contemporary perspectives suggesting a “prophetic window” for these events between 2026 and 2029 (u/Serious-Project-6983, 2024). Honestly, I think the window extends up to 2032. But either way, there is a weird convergence of the book of Daniel (and the 70-week prophecy), technological advancement, widespread biblical apostasy, and the fulfillment of the “days of Noah” that suggests the “Ultra-psychonation” Kushi described sounds like the medical conditions in the end times.
Scripture indicates that “no one knows the day or the hour” in Matthew 24:36, which asserts that only God the Father knows the exact timing of Christ’s return—the verse allows for significant interpretation. While the specific day of His return remains hidden, the broader biblical narrative suggests that the year, month, and general conditions can be inferred. Curiously enough, Kushi asserts, from a non-biblical perspective, a very similar timeline for humanity’s downfall. I find that amazing and worth writing a blog post about.
