Notice: The views expressed in this post represent an unconventional worldview that deviates from mainstream opinion. The views I share are for theological purposes and reflect only my interpretation, not the collective understanding or the mainstream Christian point of view on this subject.
Academic scholarship appears to maintain a singular viewpoint on the Earth’s shape, often resorting to name-calling against anyone who proposes a contrary view. Critics frequently dismiss alternative perspectives as a “mythological” return to a “Dark and Medieval consensus” (Gould, 1995, p. 5). This hypercritical environment suggests a defensive posture; in psychology, a grossly disproportionate reaction is often linked to cognitive dissonance or to a “fragile” self-esteem (Kernis, Lakey, & Heppner, 2008; Simply Psychology, 2023, July 14). This leads me to question if academic literature is protecting a falsehood rather than engaging in objective observation.
The Biblical Worldview
The Bible presents a longstanding and unchanging description of the earth that mainstream science labels “archaic” and “mythical” (Couprie et al., 2018, p. 20). Central to this view is the firmament, described in Genesis and Ezekiel as a “firmament” with a “terrible crystal” boundary with “waters above” it. While some cite Isaiah 40:22 (“the circle of the earth”) or Job 26:7 (“He hangs the earth on nothing”) to support a globe model, merging Christian and secular viewpoints together, my interpretation suggests it points to other scriptures like Enoch to further ground and reiterate a countercultural argument that is unlike the viewpoint provided by modern “science.” A circle is a flat shape, not a volume. Furthermore, the Book of Enoch—which I view as divinely inspired despite its exclusion from the standard canon—clarifies that the Earth is supported by “winds” that act as “pillars” (1 Enoch 18:1–5). This text also describes the sun and moon passing through specific “portals” and mentions the “storehouses” of snow and hail, corroborated by Job 38:22–23.
The Deception of Space Travel
But you might say, what about the proof of space travel? What about the moon landing? What about SpaceX and the US space program? To that, I have to say, we live in the age of deception – Hollywood magic. We are clearly told in the scripture that the antichrist spirit will blaspheme the Lord (2nd Timothy 3:2), and blasphemy is placing ungodly ideas above God’s ideas described in the Bible. The science fiction of space travel and a large globe-earth with gas layers that include a Troposphere, Stratosphere, Mesosphere, Thermosphere, and finally an exosphere, with no clear distinction into space, is contrary to scripture.
We are warned in 1 Timothy 6:20 to avoid “profane and vain babblings, and oppositions of science falsely so called.” This verse reminds us to avoid false teachings that contradict the Bible. So, I have begun to question the legitimacy of space travel, and I argue that the modern concept of space travel is a “Hollywood magic” deception consistent with the end-times “spirit of the antichrist” (2 Timothy 3:2). Scripture describes that the devil “deceives the whole world” (Revelation 12:9), through the globe model itself. In fact, in the Book of Revelation, deception is portrayed as the primary weapon of the end times. This is found in Revelation 12:9, where it says, “So the great dragon was cast out, that serpent of old, called the Devil and Satan, who deceives the whole world; he was cast to the earth, and his angels were cast out with him.”
The semantics of this verse are curious and warrant closer examination. He deceives the “world.” I think the Bible is clearly saying that the devil deceives people with the globe itself.
Observational evidence raises red flags:
- Rocket Trajectories: Rockets arch over the ocean rather than flying straight up (Space Launch Schedule, n.d.). While proponents claim this is necessary to enter orbit, I suspect they would “blow up” if they hit the firmament.
- Visual Inconsistencies: Astronaut accounts regarding the visibility of stars are contradictory: Apollo 11 reported them as invisible (r/askscience, 2008), while modern reports claim they are bright (Astrum, 2020).
- Technical Documentation: Some military documents use the phrase “flat, nonrotating earth” to model aircraft movement (Duke, Antoniewicz, & Krambeer, 1988).
Since the “keys” to space technology are held by an esoteric few, the public is forced to rely on visual productions rather than direct experience. While the scientific narrative remains inconsistent and defensive, the Biblical record provides an unchanging account of our world.
Bible verses to read:
Genesis 1:6–8: “And God said, Let there be a firmament in the midst of the waters, and let it divide the waters from the waters. And God made the firmament, and divided the waters which were under the firmament from the waters which were above the firmament: and it was so. And God called the firmament Heaven.”
Genesis 1:14–17: This passage explains that the sun, moon, and stars were placed “in the firmament” to provide light and to mark signs, seasons, days, and years.
Ezekiel 1:22: “And the likeness of the firmament upon the heads of the living creature was as the colour of the terrible crystal, stretched forth over their heads above.”
Ezekiel 1:25–26: “And there was a voice from the firmament that was over their heads… and above the firmament that was over their heads was the likeness of a throne, as the appearance of a sapphire stone.”
Ezekiel 10:1: Ezekiel mentions it again when the glory of God prepares to depart the Temple, describing the “firmament that was above the head of the cherubims.”
Three questions to consider:
- How is it that the ancient pyramids continue to line up with stars? If we were traveling deep into space, why do these stars continue to line up perfectly thousands of years after they were built?
- Why did Warner Von Braun, the father of “modern rocketry” and the “space program,” place the Bible verse Psalm 19:1 on his tombstone? The verse says: “The heavens declare the glory of God; and the firmament sheweth his handiwork.”
- Based on the descriptions in Genesis and Ezekiel, what physical characteristics are attributed to the “firmament”?
