Building Community in Indiana, PA: Behind the Scenes with Danny Mock Jr. and Danny’s Tacos

If you spend any time walking around Downtown Indiana, Pennsylvania, you will notice the areas that really make the town a unique place. Like Danny’s Tacos. A few weeks ago, my wife and I grabbed a bite to eat at Danny’s Tacos, and the food was amazing! The taco meals came out fast, the service was awesome, and the whole place has an authentic taco-truck vibe wrapped in a welcoming family restaurant.

So I went back there today to meet with Danny. I wanted to grab his thoughts on the place and learn more about the brand, the building, and the vision behind it all.

From an old Gas Station to a Downtown Indiana, PA Staple

Danny’s Tacos has been very visible the last few years in the community of Indiana, PA, with an active taco truck making hot and fresh tacos in the town. But the building itself is a new addition to the brand and has only been a physical restaurant for about a year. However, the site of Danny’s Tacos dates back decades, when it was a gasoline station.

As Danny shared in our interview, the current restaurant was an unoccupied gasoline station for the longest time. The building was recently fixed up prior to Danny building his restaurant there and what really caught his eye was the classic, mid-century look. So, instead of razing the place and starting over from scratch, Danny embraced the vintage gas station and ran with it. Tying in the old-school architecture of the vintage gas station into a modern taco restaurant now gives the corner a truly unique and unmistakably historical feel. You don’t always get that vintage vibe from new construction!

More Than Just Tacos: The Community Corner Downtown Indiana, PA

One of the most striking things Danny emphasized when we met was the restaurant project is more than just a place for great food. It’s about developing a community downtown Indiana.

Located right across from the fire hall in downtown Indiana, PA, the restaurant occupies a strategic block where people can gather, connect, and make new memories while enjoying delicious street-taco-like menu items. Danny’s Tacos is a family-friendly space designed to bring life back to a classic corner of the town.

A Quick Look at the Menu

According to their website dannystacosandmore.com, the food has high-energy just like the restaurant:

  • Street Tacos: Traditional corn or flour tortillas filled with your choice of fresh cilantro and onions.
  • Proteins: Slow-smoked items like pulled pork, brisket, and chorizo.
  • Loaded Burritos & Quesadillas: Delicious foods like rice and beans along with fresh toppings.
  • Chips & Dips: House-made chips paired with fresh salsa, queso, and guacamole.

Meeting with Danny Mock Jr. really highlighted what small business ownership is all about. Danny is an entrepreneur with vision, grit, and a commitment to community-building. Turning a vacant, unused gas station into a thriving, family-friendly restaurant is a true success story. With incredible food and a vintage look, Danny’s Tacos is truly something to talk about in our town!
